Underwriting Manager Construction, Spain

As Underwriting Manager at AXA XL Spain your mission will be taking the lead on all the key aspects of the underwriting operations in Constuction business within the Country in accordance with the regional and divisional guidelines. This includes but is not limited to portfolio profitability, account pricing, portfolio rate change, renewal retention, marketing, new business production, development of staff and broker and client management.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Executing departmental strategy and achieve P&L metrics.
- Leading and developing a team of Underwriters. Supporting the team by providing technical training and coaching on a day to day and, as required, more formalized basis.
- Developing the portfolio whilst maximizing profitability by making decisions and recommendations to assist in the development and control of profitable underwriting and monitoring of performance of products and/or schemes and portfolios in accordance with AXA strategy and business plan
- Developing relationships with stakeholders to ensure that business needs are achieved and personally getting to know and being known by brokers, clients, risk managers and account managers, mnaging insured and producer relationships across large geographical territory
- Closely collaborating with the Distribution Team by providing an effective and efficient service; seeking, identifying and developing opportunities for profitable business with new and existing customers
- Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
You will report to Property, Energy & Construction Underwriting Manager, Iberia.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Proven underwriting experience in Construction within commercial insurance market
- Ability to tailor risk solutions and analyze complex risks
- Communicate and work in Spanish and English
- Leadership and people management skills. Act as a role model enhancing team’s commitment and engagement, take initiative to lead independently, as well as inspiring success and thrive talent and AXA culture.
- Excellent commercial, communication and influencing skills. Able to communicate effectively and partnering with brokers and clients, as well as internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Strategic view and proactive market engagement with overview on local and international trends and dynamics.
- Financial acumen, including monitoring premiums, loss ratios, and portfolio performance. Ability to support business planning, forecasting, and cycle management
- Ability to work in a changing environment and navigate the matrix organization.
