A team of professionals based in Frankfurt, London, and The Hague serves the firm's European tax requirements. This team comprises tax consultants, accountants and lawyers and is responsible for all aspects of the firm's tax affairs, including structuring, managing and overseeing compliance, tax planning and advice in relation to remuneration and employee tax matters.
The Tax Department wishes to expand its footprint in Frankfurt and is seeking a VAT Associate, as part of the EMEA VAT team, to provide advice to the various businesses and manage the VAT compliance process. The role will primarily cover Germany VAT issues but will also require input into other EMEA territories.
YOUR IMPACT
Assisting the department in:
- Providing advisory support to the business including Global Banking, commodities, asset management and private wealth management business lines
- Supporting the oversight and review of group-wide VAT compliance for Germany and across EMEA where returns are prepared by an outsourced provider
- Working with the wider EMEA VAT team, outsourced provider and internal tax technology team to implement tax technology solutions, process improvements and improved use of analytics to drive VAT advisory work
- Maintenance of the VAT control framework to manage risks and support on managing the relationship with Tax Authorities
- Liaising with Corporate Workplace Solutions and Controllers to ensure VAT is coded correctly in payment systems, upstream applications and the general ledger
- Assist outsourced service provider to perform Balance Sheet Substantiation process which involves reconciliation of accounting records to VAT returns
- Ad-hoc business support in product and operational taxation matters
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years in-house / practice experience with a complex financial services group
- Strong indirect taxation advisory and compliance experience
- Ideally Tax qualified
- Good understanding of or practical experience with VAT laws in Germany and an understanding of the rules other countries
- Detail-oriented individual who takes ownership of projects, is organized, possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and able to deliver on tight deadlines
- Highly motivated, hard-working, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
